The hormones behind drive and vitality

Male Hormone & Fertility

Male hormones influence far more than libido. Testosterone and the pituitary signals that govern it shape your energy, mood, muscle and fertility. When they drift out of their comfortable range, the effects can be gradual and easy to attribute to everyday life. This panel measures seven markers to show where your levels sit and how the system is working together.

Alongside total testosterone, we measure sex hormone binding globulin and the free androgen index, which together show how freely that testosterone can be used, plus FSH, LH, prolactin and oestradiol. Your sample is a single venous draw taken in our private Leigh-on-Sea clinic and analysed by an accredited UK laboratory, with results in a doctor’s report.

If you are exploring fertility, low energy or changes in libido, these numbers give you a clear picture, and a sensible basis to discuss with your GP if anything warrants a closer look.

Preparation: A morning draw is recommended, as testosterone naturally peaks in the earlier part of the day. No fasting is required. If you take any hormone medication, please note it for your report.

About this test

  • Testosterone follows a daily rhythm and is highest in the morning. An early draw gives the most representative reading, which is why we suggest booking before midday where possible.

  • It estimates how much of your testosterone is actually available to your body, rather than bound up in the blood. Read with SHBG, it gives a fuller picture than total testosterone alone.

  • Most reports are returned within 5–7 working days of your sample reaching the laboratory, reviewed and explained by a doctor.
