A measured look at prostate health

Prostate PSA

£109+ £25 blood draw per visit, however many tests you book3 biomarkersResults in 5–7 working days

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein made by the prostate, and its level in the blood can offer a useful early signal about prostate health. This panel measures total PSA, free PSA and the ratio between them, which tells you more than a single reading could. It is an indicator rather than a diagnosis: many everyday things can nudge PSA up or down.

Your sample is a simple venous draw taken in our private Leigh-on-Sea clinic and analysed by an accredited UK laboratory. Every result is reviewed and explained in a doctor’s report, so you are never left to interpret a number on your own.

Because PSA can shift with ordinary activity, timing and preparation matter. A raised result is common and often has a benign explanation, but it is always worth a conversation. Testing periodically can help you and your doctor understand your personal baseline and notice any meaningful change over the years, well before it might otherwise come to your attention.

Preparation: No fasting is needed. For the most reliable reading, avoid ejaculation, vigorous exercise and cycling for 48 hours before your draw, as these can temporarily raise PSA. Mention any urinary symptoms or recent procedures for your report.

About this test

  • No. PSA can rise for many benign reasons: an enlarged prostate, infection, recent exercise or ejaculation among them. A raised result means it is worth discussing with your GP, who may repeat the test or arrange further checks.

  • The ratio of free to total PSA gives a more refined picture than total PSA alone, which your doctor can weigh alongside your age, symptoms and history when explaining your report.

  • Your doctor-reviewed report is usually ready within 5–7 working days of your sample reaching the laboratory.
