Iron sits quietly behind so much of how you feel day to day, from your energy and concentration to the warmth of your hands and feet. Too little can leave you drained and pale; too much can quietly build up over time. This panel measures five complementary markers to show your iron level alongside how well your body stores and transports it.

Ferritin reflects your stored iron, while total and unsaturated iron binding capacity and transferrin saturation reveal how efficiently iron is moving to where it is needed. Your sample is a single venous draw taken in our private Leigh-on-Sea clinic and analysed by an accredited UK laboratory, with every result reviewed and explained in a doctor’s report.

If you are looking into persistent tiredness, following a plant-based diet, donating blood regularly or keeping an eye on your levels, the numbers here give you a clear picture, and a solid starting point to discuss with your GP if anything needs a closer look.

Preparation: A morning draw is preferred, when iron levels are most representative. Please avoid iron supplements for 24 hours beforehand, as a recent dose can skew your iron reading.

About this test

  • A single iron figure can be misleading. By adding ferritin, binding capacity and transferrin saturation, this panel shows both how much iron you have stored and how well your body is moving it, for a far clearer picture.

  • Most reports are returned within 5–7 working days of your sample reaching the laboratory, reviewed and explained by a doctor.

  • Where you can, avoid iron supplements for 24 hours before your draw so the results reflect your natural stores. Do mention any supplements you take so they can be noted on your report.
